Independent Research Orchestration
Avedryn assembles cross-institution teams of leading applied researchers and orchestrates them around hard problems in defense, national security, energy, and transportation. Industry, government, and academia in one room, without the walls.
The Problem
The best researcher for your problem rarely sits at your partner institution, your incumbent prime, or anywhere on your org chart. World-class capability is fragmented across universities, labs, and primes, and no single institution will ever assemble its competitors for you.
Even when you find the right people, the teaming agreements, IP terms, rates, workshare, and compliance reviews can eat two quarters before the first experiment runs. Most problems die in that paperwork, not in the lab.
Universities pitch their faculty. Primes pitch their staff. Brokers pitch whoever pays them. Nobody in the chain is neutral, so nobody optimizes for the best team. Avedryn exists to be the neutral party whose only product is the right team.
The Model
Avedryn does not perform the research and does not compete for it. We formulate the problem, assemble the team, put one clean teaming framework around it, and orchestrate the work through delivery.
A capability gap, an SBIR or STTR topic, a program in trouble, a technology decision with real consequences. Any stage, any classification posture the room is cleared to discuss. If the problem is not worth a team, we will tell you that first.
We sharpen the problem statement until a researcher can act on it, then match it against a verified bench that spans every major technology area: rising stars and established anchors, each profiled on evidence, not reputation.
One framework covers IP, publication, workshare, and compliance before work starts, so assembly takes days, not semesters. The lead researcher's institution contracts directly with the sponsor. Research dollars never pass through Avedryn.
We run the assembly through delivery: milestones, integration across institutions, and the path to the next phase, whether that is a follow-on award, a transition partner, or a fielded capability. One accountable point of contact for a team that spans the map.
Services
Assembly
Fixed-fee assembly of sponsored-research and SBIR/STTR teams: problem formulation, researcher matching, a teaming framework agreed before work starts, and a compliant team ready to propose. Built for companies that need the right research partners and cannot afford a quarter of searching.
Access
Standing access to the verified bench with priority matching, plus a direct line for fast-turn technical questions. For primes, companies, and universities that solve hard problems more than once a year.
Research
What the government is actually asking for, and which doors just opened: SBIR/STTR demand analysis, new-program opportunity tracking, and forecast demand across defense, energy, and transportation, delivered as a living subscription instead of a static report.
Authority
Independent assessment and gate reviews for high-consequence technology decisions, under an independence charter: diligence for investors and acquirers, transition readiness for programs, second opinions that owe nothing to any vendor.
Who We Serve
Our clientele sits mostly in government contracting, with commercial work alongside it. What Avedryn offers depends on which seat is yours.
Funded problems routed to the labs that can solve them, under your institution's rules, with research dollars flowing directly to you.
What we offer higher edIndependent technical authority, problem formulation, and convening, from a party that never bids and never primes.
What we offer governmentResearch teams assembled at program speed, plus a standing chair for the hard problems that keep coming back.
What we offer primes and companiesThe STTR partner search, teaming, and topic strategy that turns winnable topics into submitted proposals.
What we offer small businessesThe Bench
The bench spans every major applied technology area, from anchors with decades of delivery behind them to the rising researchers everyone will be competing for next. Nobody is on it because of a logo, a title, or a conference talk. They are on it because the record checks out, twice.
Every profile is verified against an institutional record and independent evidence of excellence and applied work. One source, and the dossier does not exist.
US teaming posture and allied eligibility are marked on every profile, so an assembly never starts with a compliance surprise three weeks in.
Appointments move, funding shifts, people change institutions. The roster is re-checked on a cycle, because a stale bench is how intermediaries die.
Researchers join per problem, under standard bench terms: first call on matching problems, agreed rates on file, conflicts disclosed up front. The bench is a working roster, not a directory, and it is never for sale as a list.
Sectors
Autonomy and robotics, hypersonics and advanced propulsion, directed energy, space operations and domain awareness, cyber and secure communications, microelectronics and photonics, modeling and simulation.
CBRNE detection and response, resilient positioning, navigation, and timing, infrastructure protection, biotechnology and human performance, logistics and sustainment for contested environments.
Next-generation generation, storage and grid resilience, fuels, hydrogen, and carbon management, advanced materials and the manufacturing base behind all of it.
Electrification and vehicle technologies, resilient navigation for aviation and maritime, rail and infrastructure systems, digital engineering for safety-critical fleets.
About

Patrick Glass has spent his career at the junction of industry, government, and academia, doing the work that makes research actually happen. He leads enterprise partnerships at a major research university, where his desk spans one of the largest colleges of engineering and computer science in the country and one of the most respected photonics colleges in the world. From that seat, he orchestrates sponsored research the way it really gets done: multiple principal investigators across multiple institutions, and the full machinery behind them, from intellectual property and technology transfer to contracts and compliance. His portfolio includes directed energy programs, where the team, the science, and the paperwork all have to arrive together.
Before that, in industry, he built and ran federal growth from the front, then stayed to deliver what he helped win. Avedryn is the combination, independent: the same orchestration discipline he runs inside the university system, offered as a neutral party across every institution instead of inside one. He is a US Army National Guard veteran and a former EMS field training officer. He lives and works in Orlando, Florida.
We never prime, so we never bid against a client. We never take a percentage of a research award, so our incentive is the quality of the match, not the size of the deal. We bring problems, never promises; researchers and institutions decide through their own processes. And we keep a performance ledger on every assembly, because in this business the only marketing that works is a team we built that delivered.
Questions
No. Avedryn is an orchestrator, not a prime. We do not perform research, we do not bid for it, and we never sit on both sides of a team we assembled. Our only product is the right team.
Directly from the sponsor to the lead researcher's institution, at that institution's full rates. Research money never passes through Avedryn, and our fees are flat or retainer-based, never a percentage of an award.
The researchers and their institutions, through their own approval processes. We bring a formulated problem and a proposed team. We never promise a specific person's time, and nobody is committed until they have said yes themselves.
A straight answer on whether a team is the right move, then formulation, matching against the bench, assembly under one teaming framework, and orchestration through delivery. First conversations are about the problem, not a pitch.
Conversations start at the level everyone in the room is cleared to support, and every engagement is scoped to that posture from the first call. If a problem cannot be discussed, it cannot be assembled, and we will say so early.
